Understanding Your Contract

Your policy contract describes your coverage, its limits, and the vehicle the policy covers. This article is meant to help you better understand your contract and answer any questions you may have regarding your contract.

This article applies to Autrella and Discount ESP policy holders, regardless of the type of vehicle that’s being covered.

Coverage Information

The coverage information section on your contract describes the type of plan you purchased and any additional optional coverages you may have purchased.

Plan P – Powertrain Component Coverage

Engine

Covered components include:

  • Internal lubricated parts: bearings, pistons, piston pins, piston rings, valves, valve springs, valve spring retainers, rocker arms

  • Timing system: timing chain or belt, tensioners, timing gear

  • Oil and fuel system: oil pump, push rods, valve lifters, valve guides, valve seats

  • Crankshaft and camshaft components: crankshaft, main bearings, camshaft, cam bearings, rocker shafts, rocker bushings

  • Other parts: water pump, engine mounts/cushions, exhaust and intake manifolds, front cover, harmonic balancer, flywheel (flexplate), flywheel ring gear, pulleys, eccentric shaft

  • Seals and gaskets

  • Turbo/Supercharger: All internal lubricated parts within the housing; housing itself is covered only if damage is caused by internal part failure

📝 Note: Engine block, cylinder heads, sleeves, oil pan, and valve covers are covered only if damage is due to internal lubricated part failure.

Transmission (Automatic or Manual)

  • Internal lubricated parts

  • Torque converter, pump, drums, reaction carrier

  • Shafts, hubs, gears, shift rails, forks, internal linkage, bearings

  • Transmission mounts, vacuum modulator

  • Seals and gaskets

📝 Transmission case, housing, and oil pan covered only if damage is caused by internal lubricated part failure.

Transfer Case

  • All internal lubricated parts

📝 Housing covered only if damage results from internal lubricated part failure.

Drive Axle Assembly (Front, Rear, 4WD, or AWD)

  • Internal lubricated parts: hub, axle bearings, drive gears, clutches

  • Constant velocity (CV) joints, universal joints, axle shafts

  • Seals and gaskets

📝 Housing covered only if damage is caused by internal lubricated part failure.


Plan A – Stated Component Coverage

Includes everything in Plan P, plus:

Engine Cooling System

  • Fan

  • Fan clutch

  • Fan motor

Factory Air Conditioning

  • Compressor, clutch, pulley

  • Condenser, evaporator, receiver dryer, accumulator

  • HVAC controller/module

  • Seals and gaskets

Suspension

  • Struts

  • Upper/lower control arms, shafts, bushings

  • Upper/lower ball joints

  • Stabilizer shaft, linkage, bushings

  • Spindles, supports

  • Wheel bearings

  • Front axle lift system

Steering

  • Internal lubricated parts

  • Steering gearbox, rack and pinion

  • Power steering pump, power cylinder

  • Main/intermediate steering shafts and couplings

  • Tie rods and ends, idler arm, pitman arm

  • Electric steering motor and rack with electric assist

Fuel System

  • Fuel pump, fuel injection pump, injectors, fuel rail

  • Metal fuel lines, nozzles

  • Vacuum pump, vacuum assist booster

Factory-Installed Navigation System

  • Display

  • Controls

  • Electrical components

Brakes

  • Master cylinder

  • Vacuum/hydraulic power brake booster

  • Wheel cylinders, disc calipers

  • Hydraulic lines and fittings

Electrical System

  • Alternator, voltage regulator, voltage sensor

  • Starter motor, drive, solenoid

  • Distributor, ignition module

  • Wiper motor, power window motor, sunroof motor

  • Wiring harnesses, manual switches

Electronic High-Tech Components

  • Level control compressor, sensors, limiter valve

  • Pneumatic suspension pump

  • Fuel injection sensors and module

  • Crank sensors, ignition module

  • Moisture control unit and sensors

  • Anti-detonation sensors

  • OEM-installed entry system and anti-theft device

  • ABS module, electronic brake control module

  • Digital/analog instrument cluster

Electrical Plus

  • Power motors and solenoids for:

    • Antennas

    • Door locks

    • Headlights

    • Seats

    • Mirrors

    • Convertible tops

    • Trunk releases


Plan B – Exclusionary Coverage

Includes Plan P + Plan A, and expands coverage to all factory-installed mechanical components, except those explicitly listed as not covered in the “What Is Not Covered” section of your contract.


Companion Wrap Plans

Plan CA – Stated Component Coverage

Covers everything in Plan A
❌ Excludes Powertrain components listed in Plan P
❌ Excludes items listed in “What Is Not Covered”

Plan CB – Exclusionary Coverage

Covers everything in Plan B
❌ Excludes Powertrain components listed in Plan P
❌ Excludes items listed in “What Is Not Covered”

What Is Not Covered

This section outlines exclusions from your Extended Service Agreement. Coverage only applies to components listed in the “What Is Covered” section of your specific plan. The following are not covered:


⚠️ General Exclusions

  • Any item not listed under your plan’s “What Is Covered” section

  • Incidental or consequential damages, such as:

    • Property damage

    • Personal injury

    • Inconvenience

    • Loss of vehicle use

    • Damage caused by a covered part to a non-covered part (or vice versa)

  • Manufacturer-related exclusions, including:

    • Repairs covered under manufacturer or emissions warranties (even if not transferred to you)

    • Manufacturer recalls or bulletins

    • Failures caused by a known defect the manufacturer offered to fix but you did not


🚫 Ineligible Vehicles or Use Cases

Coverage is void if your vehicle:

  • Was not certified for U.S. sale at manufacture

  • Has a salvage title, has been branded, or declared a total loss

  • Is used for:

    • Snow plowing (unless OEM-equipped)

    • Racing, competitive driving, or towing beyond manufacturer limits

    • For-hire transportation (rideshare, taxi, etc.)

    • Municipal or emergency services

    • Commercial use, unless declared and surcharged in the agreement


🔧 Pre-existing or Non-covered Damage

  • Any pre-existing condition at time of sale (must be fully functional)

  • Damage from:

    • Accidents or collisions

    • Negligence, overheating, or abuse

    • Improper lubrication or lack of coolant

    • Road conditions, vandalism, theft, floods, fire, riots, or “acts of God”

    • Improper load capacity or continued operation while impaired


🔄 Partial/Performance Degradation

  • Gradual issues like:

    • Excessive oil consumption

    • Loss of compression

    • Reduced performance over time

  • Repairs beyond what’s necessary to correct a covered failure


✍️ Modifications, Mileage, or Location

  • Modified or non-OEM added components

  • Odometer tampering or altered mileage

  • Repairs made outside the U.S. or Canada without written approval


🛠️ Maintenance-Related Exclusions

  • Manufacturer’s required maintenance

  • Damage caused by failure to prevent further issues

  • Diagnostic fees for non-covered or unauthorized repairs


🧪 Mechanical Exclusions

  • Fluids, refrigerants, coolants (unless required for a covered repair)

  • Maintenance and wear items:

    • Filters, belts, hoses, spark plugs, wiper blades

    • Batteries, battery cables

    • Brake pads, rotors, drums, and shoes

    • Manual clutch components

    • Shock absorbers, struts

    • Tires, wheel balancing/alignment

    • Lights and bulbs

    • Shop supplies or hazardous waste fees

  • Contaminated fuel or fluids, throttle body (except injectors)

  • Repairs related to:

    • Water intrusion, corrosion, or carbon buildup

    • Emission compliance (e.g. Clean Air Act-related replacements)


🚙 Exterior Exclusions

  • Cosmetic or body-related parts:

    • Paint, rust, trim, moldings

    • Body panels, bumpers, hinges, glass

    • Weather stripping, convertible/vinyl tops

    • Air or water leaks, wind noise

  • Exterior service adjustments


🛋️ Interior Exclusions

  • Trim, carpet, upholstery

  • Dash pad, buttons, knobs, mirrors (rearview/glass/housing)

  • Handles (door/window)

  • All non-factory-installed equipment, such as:

    • Radios, CD/DVD players, speakers

    • Navigation/audio/visual equipment

    • Heads-up/information displays

    • Anti-theft devices, radar detectors, telematics


💰 Limits of Liability

  • Total payout under this agreement will not exceed the vehicle’s actual cash value (ACV), based on the current NADA Official Used Car Guide

  • Single repair payout will also not exceed vehicle ACV at the time of the breakdown


🧾 Maintenance Responsibilities

To maintain your coverage:

  • You must follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule (e.g. oil changes, inspections)

  • Keep receipts with date, mileage, and service details from the date of sale

  • Failure to maintain or provide records may result in denied coverage
